Hi! My name is Brian Lang, and I’m a North Jersey transplant who is now a proud Philadelphia resident of over 10 years.
Born and raised in Dumont, NJ, I trekked down to Jersey City each day for high school to attend St. Peter’s Prep, where I first discovered my love of distance running. After graduating, I continued south down the NJ Turnpike, where I attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and also was a member of the track & field team. Upon graduating with a degree in Psychology, I took a job nearby as a management consultant, and I’ve been doing that and calling Philly my home ever since.
I continued training and racing competitively as a working professional for 4 years (which wasn’t easy to balance, but I figured it out), completing 5 marathons and a host of other races. My personal-best marathon time, which I ran in the 2011 Philadelphia Marathon with my dad, is 2:31:23 — although I wasn’t wearing more than a sleeveless tank top and short shorts, so a full-on Santa suit will be quite a departure from my typical racing attire! I then headed off to grad school to complete my MBA at Duke’s Fuqua School of Business while continuing to work full-time, at which point I thought my training/racing days were over.
But the prospect of breaking a Guinness World Record and helping a ton of kids in the process was enough to coax me out of my “retirement” from distance running, so here I am!
